A local move and an intercity move look similar from the outside — same cartons, same vehicle, same crew. The differences are in packing depth, scheduling and how much flexibility you have if something is forgotten.
Packing depth is the biggest difference
Goods on a long-distance route spend hours absorbing vibration and are handled more often. Intercity packing therefore uses heavier cushioning, more thorough sealing and edge protection on furniture. Local packing still protects everything properly, but the load is not subjected to the same sustained stress.
Scheduling flexibility narrows with distance
On a local move, a forgotten item can often be collected the same day. On an intercity move, anything left behind stays behind. That single fact is why the pre-move walkthrough matters far more on long-distance relocations.
Access planning happens at both ends
Local moves let you inspect both addresses easily. For intercity moves you often cannot, so lift availability, parking and building rules at the destination have to be confirmed by phone before the vehicle departs rather than discovered on arrival.

What stays the same
The process is identical in structure: pre-move discussion, packing, labelling, loading, transport, unloading and placement. Whether the destination is five kilometres or five hundred, goods are wrapped, secured and delivered to the room they belong in.
Choosing between them is rarely a choice
Your destination decides the category. What you control is preparation — and preparation matters more as distance increases, because your ability to correct a mistake decreases at exactly the same rate.
