Moving Day Checklist: Everything You Should Remember

By moving day the decisions should be made. This is the list for executing them.

Moving day goes well when nothing has been left to decide. Everything below assumes the packing and planning are done — this is about running the day itself in the right order.

Before the crew arrives

Give yourself an hour of margin in the morning. Almost every delay later in the day traces back to a rushed start.

  • Keep the essentials bag and valuables separated and with you
  • Clear the entrance, hallway and parking space
  • Confirm the lift is available and security has been informed
  • Charge your phone and keep both addresses written down

During loading

Stay reachable but out of the working path. Point out fragile cartons and anything that must be loaded last because it is needed first at the other end. Confirm that furniture fittings from dismantled items are bagged and labelled.

The final walkthrough

Before the vehicle leaves, check every room, cupboard, balcony and storage space — including the ones you are sure are empty. The back of wardrobes, the loft, the utility area and behind doors are where forgotten items live.

  • Open every cupboard and wardrobe
  • Check balconies, utility areas and storage lofts
  • Look behind and under all remaining furniture
  • Switch off utilities and collect all keys

On arrival

Do a quick check of the new home first: lights working, water available, floors clear and the route to each room open. Then direct cartons to rooms as they come off the vehicle instead of letting them accumulate at the entrance.

Before the crew leaves

Confirm the count of large items, check that dismantled furniture has been reassembled, and make sure heavy pieces are positioned where you actually want them — moving a wardrobe later is much harder without the crew.

The first evening

Assemble and make the beds, set up the bathroom, and unpack only the kitchen basics. Everything else can wait for daylight and a clearer head.
