How to Choose the Best Packers and Movers for Your Move

Start with how they ask questions, not how they answer them

A company that quotes without asking what you are moving is guessing. Before any realistic price can be prepared, a mover needs to know the volume of goods, the floor and lift access at both addresses, whether furniture needs dismantling, and how much of the packing they are doing.

When a company asks those questions early, it usually means their process is defined rather than improvised. When they skip them, the number they give you is provisional whether or not they say so.

Check what the quotation actually includes

Two quotations for the same move can differ enormously simply because one includes packing material and the other does not. Before comparing prices, compare scope.

• Is packing material — cartons, wrapping, cushioning, tape — included?
• Does the price cover loading and unloading, or just transportation?
• Is furniture dismantling and reassembly part of the service?
• Is unpacking assistance included or offered separately?
• Are stair carries or long carries from the parking point accounted for?

Look for a defined moving process

Ask a mover to describe the sequence of your move. A serious answer sounds like a process: pre-move discussion, packing, labelling, loading, transport, unloading, placement. A vague answer usually means the crew works it out on the day, which is how items end up unlabelled and boxes end up in the wrong rooms.

Verify the business exists where it says it does

Check the company's Google Business Profile. A verified listing with a real location and genuine reviews written by real accounts tells you more than a website ever will. Reviews that are all posted in the same week, or that read identically, are not evidence of anything.

Be cautious with unusually low quotations

A price far below every other quotation usually means something was left out of the scope — packing material, an extra crew member, the second trip nobody mentioned. Ask what has been excluded, and get the answer before the vehicle arrives rather than after it is loaded.

Confirm the details in writing

Before you book, make sure the date, the addresses, the scope of packing and the services included are all confirmed in writing. Most moving-day disputes come from an assumption that was never stated out loud.
